Here's the dilemma tonight: Do I watch the Bruins or the Celtics? The Celtics are playing pretty poorly right now and I feel like they need my full attention. The Bruins, on the other hand, have a very important stretch ahead of them. The B's have 10 of 13 games at home this month. They've been unbeatable at home and could use this time to extend their lead in the Eastern Conference. It's inappropriate I have to make this decision.
1 holla back:
I woke up this morning feeling great about sleeping in because of the snow day. Then I remembered that the Celtics lost to the Bobcats last night and are 2-5 since winning 19 in a row. As I watched the Bobcats dominate the final five minutes of overtime, I was disgusted at the lack of purpose, defense, and intensity that the defending champs demonstrated. I was texting my brother and my friend Ryan, both of whom weren't particularly thrilled with the Celtics effort. My brother compared them to the Pistons who we saw turn it on and off the year following their last championship and the inconsistent play made for an early exit from the playoffs that year. So what is wrong with the Celtics?
It would be unfair to say that they aren't the same team they were last year; they did win 19 in a row before this slide. What they are is a different team, missing two key contributors (James Posey and PJ Brown) from last years team. Their second unit has yet to find their go to guy, and the starters are playing two many minutes, making them tired at the end of the game. Also to be considered is that when you're the defending champs, you are getting every other teams best effort every night. The Celtics will make a move for a player that can contribute to the second unit and provide resting opportunities for the starters. The season is long, and I'm confident that Danny Ainge sees what we see that Tony Allen is not producing like we had hoped.
So last night, as I lay in bed frustrated and aggravated at this Celtics slide, I had to remind myself that they are the defending world champs, and they have already won more games this season than they did just two years ago in the worst year in Celtics history. We have become spoiled in just one year of recent success, so I'm going to go back to being a true Celtics fan who likes them at 24-58 or 66-16. Lets just hope they don't drop anymore!
