Picks are posted

In our #1 game, Clay picked the Steelers (+1.5), while Oz went with the home team. Even though we disagree on the outcome of the game, we can agree that hot girls are awesome.

Hopefully I'll regain some momentum after my 1-2 day on Thursday. What can I complain about though? I went 3 for 3 gambling actual money. It's been a good couple weeks. The picks are now here.

Bruins game

I had a good time at the Bruins game yesterday watching the B's beat the Islanders on the ice (7-2) and in fights (one win for Lucic, one win for Hnidy). Here's Lucic vs. Witt. Hockeyfights.com voters gave it to Lucic.

New Bruins Jersey

I kind of want and really like the Bruins alternate jersey, which they will debut on Friday against the Islanders in a game I will be attending. I'm also going to give some love to wickedbruinsfan.com. It's the best Bruins blog I've found. Check it out.

Hot girl

I'm not going to claim I know her or anything about her, but I'll give credit to barstoolsports for letting her into my life. No big reason for her being posted here other than her being really hot.

A More Dangerous Game

This is a little overdue, but here's an article entitled "A More Dangerous Game" by Matthew Teague from last week's Sports Illustrated about the decline of hunting in America and it's effects on both humans and wilderness. Just a fascinating article all the way around and one of the many reasons I continue to subscribe to the magazine. Unfortunately, a lot of these articles are few and far between. However, when they do appear, it's a treat for readers.

Moreover, if you're listening, John Huey and David Bauer, we need more articles like this! We also need guest writers like you used to publish. Whatever happened to that? People still want to read John Updike, Gay Talese, and their ilk.

Chapter nine posted

Check out chapter nine of the STILL unpublished novel, Chasing Sunsets by Matthew Osgood.

Read it, enjoy it.

Best video of the week

This was the best video I found all week. World Series 2001 game three at Yankee Stadium. Three weeks after 9/11, George Bush (when people liked him) comes in to throw the first pitch. He trots out to the mound to a standing ovation, wearing a bullet-proof vest and fires and absolute strike down the middle. Great stuff.

Picks are here

Ready for the return of Pacman Jones?

Sorry so late, but the picks are up. Happy gambling day.

Part one.

Part two.

Thursday Nights

Here's the pick for Thursday Night Football's game between the Steelers and the Bengals. Oz in black, Clay in blue.

Cincinatti @ Pittsburgh (-10.5)

It is convenient that tonights game was ranked last so that it was sitting here at the top. What a crappy Thur night game. This is a good line, because I like the Steelers to win by two scores, but 10 would be a lot easier. Pitt has been dominating this series winning the last 4 and something like 13 of 15. They are at home in a good stadium, and they are too physical for this team. The offense has been a bit stagnant lately, they put up a ton of yards last week vs SD, but who doesn’t, and they couldn’t get into the endzone, scoring a total of 9 points with their offense. If the defense could shut down the Chargers, though, I don’t think they will have any trouble with Cincy. The point is, Cincy covered their last two at home and that is skewing our mind. Before that they got blown out on the road at Houston by 28 and the week before that, Pitt beat them by 28. All the talk is about revenge on Hines Ward, who is one of the best all around players in the NFL. Worry about revenge and you will get burned. Pitt rolls here.

Steelers -10.5

Good call on the worst game of the week. At the beginning of this year, it looked as if this would be competitive. It's not. Pittsburgh is clearly better and the Bengals are one of the worst five teams in the league.

I don't think we've talked about how good of an interception Troy Polomalu had last weekend. Probably one of the best I've ever seen. And it was an interception. Don't try to talk me out of it. Great play. This defense is awesome. Make no doubt about it. There are probably four teams that could win the Super Bowl and the Steelers are one of them.

Steelers -10.5

Here it is, Clay.

How Obama Got Elected . Com

An troubling documentary here in the form of HowObamaGotElected.com. Yes, spare me the "these are just clips of people who are morons" because I know there are people on both ends of the political spectrum who are morons. Should we give this the same credibility at Farenheit 9/11 (remember some people stood up and applauded and some people walked out)? Just a sad, sad state of American politics.

You have to click on the link to watch the video (they wouldn't let me embed it), but it's worth it. Do it.

Taylor Mali

I've been showing my classes lately that poetry is not necessarily just old, obscure language and that it can be current and hip (and I used the word "hip"). That got me into a coversation with a classmate about Taylor Mali. Mos Def does an appropriate intro in the first video. Just watch. You can thank me later.

Picks are posted

Lambeau Field is the site of our #1 game between the Packers (-3) and the Bears

Welcome to week eleven of the NFL season. Clay is off to a 1-0 start, while Oz is 0-1 after incorrectly suggesting the Patriots could beat the mighty Jets led by the magic man Brett Favre. (Yes, he's still bitter.)

For the bottom six games, click here.

For the middle six games, click here.

For the top four games (Dal/WAS, Bal/NYG, San/PIT, Chi/GB), click here.

Clay and I agree on an unprecedented ten games this week. Hopefully that's a good thing. Here's the list: Philly, KC, Carolina, 49ers, Arizona, Indy, Tennessee, TB, NYG, and Pittsburgh.

Good luck.

Pats-Jets

Still a little bummed about last night's game. I can't stand when the Patriots lose, nevermind to the Jets, who rank slightly above Montreal for my most hated team. I appreciated someone mentioning last night that the Jets and the Patriots is a rivalry inasmuch as a hammer and nail are a rivalry. Did the Jets get over some imaginary hump last night in winning? I don't think so. They've won twice in the last twelve meetings. Way to go, Mangini, you beat Belichick without four of their best players. Excuses aside, what a game. Some very biased notes:
  • Jerrod Mayo. 20 tackles?! You've gotta be kidding me. 16 of them solo! This kid is the best defensive player in the league right now. Yup, I said it.
  • Matt Cassel era officially has a new fan. 400 yards passing last night, three touchdowns. What impressed me the most was the last-minute drive to tie the game. And how about the dart he threw Moss to tie the game with one second left?! (I should add that it was also one hell of a catch, too. What was that about Moss giving up once Brady went down?)

  • This game was a prime example of why the overtime rules need to change. It was a wildly exciting contest that ended with a field goal and no Patriot possession. Why not let the teams play a fifth quarter? Especially in a game like this. Come on, Goodell. Get on this. You want to change the league? Start here.
  • Defense. Third and 15! What the shit went on there?! As Bob Ryan suggested, that play was the game.

At least we got one last night

I'd be foolish not to post this fight between Mike Komisarek and Milan Lucic. Watching the Pats game last night I didn't even see this and I'm kinda bummed because these guys have wanted to go at it for a while. I love Milan Lucic. I want to see him fight Kimbo.

Did you want more? Good.

Picks come early

Does this look like the face of a man who is going to lose to the Jets tonight?

Oz in black, Clay in blue.

It's late, I've had about seven Budweisers and I want to make predictions on the game for tomorrow. I haven't looked at the spread, but I'm pretty sure if the Jets can't beat the Patriots tomorrow, they never will. Let's look at this:

  1. No Brady
  2. A fifth-string runningback
  3. No Rodney Harrison
  4. No Adalius Thomas

F*** the Jets. So they picked up Ty Law. He's a lying motherf***er. When I saw him at the Celtics game, I said, "Ty, you headed back here?" and he laughed. Which doesn't make him a liar, I guess, but it does make him a douchebag.

That's all.

Pats (-3)

I clearly have something wrong in my view of either the Jets or Rams, mostly likely both. The Jets have a very good run defense, and their offense is explosive at times, but has a tendency to get complacent. I’m not sure what do to with this game, because I don’t really understand any of the AFC East teams. I can’t tell if they are all good, all bad, or all in the middle. None of them are consistent, but they are all doing pretty well. I don’t see a lot of points in this one and the Pats are favored by the dreaded 3. When the Pats won in the Meadowlands, the Jets hadn’t figured themselves out yet, but I am not sure they have even to this point. I don’t think either team is very good, but they both continue to win games I don’t expect them to. Can the Jets win on the road two weeks in a row vs AFC East rivals?

There is no way the Pats will be able to run the ball vs this defense, and I have a hard time believing that Cassel can win the game himself. The defense will have to shut the Jets down to win this one, which isn’t a stretch. Too many injuries for the Pats in this one, I think the Jets defense does the heavy lifting but Favre gets the credit for the win.

Jets +3

Wait a minute. The Jets hadn't figured themselves out yet?! Do you work for ESPN, CBS, or Fox? This is the same bullshit we get every Sunday on the pre-game. "The Jets hadn't figured themselves out yet." That's such crap. If they were the better team, they would have won the game.

Talk about a team who hadn't figured themselves out. Didn't the Patriots just lose the best player in the league the previous week? They could've shut down, taken it slow, and worked into it. Instead, they just came in and kicked the Jets ass. F*** the Jets.

People need to stop making excuses for when Brett Favre loses. Or throws a stupid interceptions ("Brett Favre here just trying to win the game." No shit. All quarterbacks are "just trying to win the game.")

That’s a good point, the Pats hadn’t figured themselves out yet, either, but the truth is, Favre was throwing passes to nobody, and they were trying to run the ball every play. They definitely had no groove on offense, which has gotten better over the last month. In all fairness, the Patriots didn’t have a groove on offense either, which still makes this a different game.

I am sensing a growing hatred of Favre. Every time you talk about him it gets more and more angry, hahaha.

It's true. I hate that man.

Paul Pierce: Top Five?

Here's the debate: Last night on the Celtics pregame show the hosts were discussing whether or not RIGHT NOW Paul Pierce is a top five NBA player. Immediate reaction? No. He may be top ten, but not top five. Could one or two games sway that? Probably not.

However, after watching last night's performance (not to mention the game against Toronto), I'm willing to reconsider. Pierce is playing with more confidence than he ever has, is clearly the best player on the best team, and has hit big shots in big moments for the last six months. Right now? Present moment? Yes, top five.

On that note: what a game last night. Chris Sheridan wrote a great piece on the playoff atmosphere of the game against the Hawks. Check it out.

Poetry update

Someone named "anonymous" (Latin for "without a name") suggested I give the poetry page some love. Whoever that person is, they're right. So I updated with three new poems and an updated one (the "questions" poem, now called "por ejemplo"). Please, now, it's your turn to give the poetry some love.

The only updates came from poetry I had transcribed onto the computer. When I transcribe again, I'll add more. I just need inspiration, people!

It's a good day to honor our veterens today. We should be happy for the things we have here in America. We've seemed to lose sight of these things.

New President

Congrats to Barack Obama, our new president.I know it hasn't been called, but it is true. I have nothing more to say. Goodnight.

I'm going to give you all chapter eight either tomorrow or Thursday, too, so keep checking us out.

Panthers

Black Panthers outside polling places in Pennsylvania. Isn't this the same way JFK won in 1960? Voter intimidation?

Everyone thinks this is okay, right? What if the KKK were outside places in Alabama?

Think about it.
