Is Google Making Us Stupid?
This is from The Atlantic from a while ago, but I recently found it in my desk at school and found myself re-reading it. Since I do not have the luxury to share the article with you tangibly, I'll have to provide you with the link. The article is titled, "Is Google Making Us Stupid" and it's by a guy named Nicholas Carr.
Google has made it tremendously easy to access a world of information we'd ordinarily spent a great deal of time trying to discover. Instead of reading Hamlet and trying to identify a theme, the answer is readily available on Google. When people lose their ability to think (as my students would say though, "thinking is hard"), the world is in a lot of trouble. Sadly, this could be where we're headed.

Bruins
If this is the last time the Bruins play Montreal this season, I'm glad to see it end like this. What a win for the Bruins. It'd be a kick in the ass to lose at home to a bunch of Canadien pieces of trash in the last regular season game at the Garden. You know, since the Bruins probably won't be playing the one and done bums from up north.

Three days in a row
That's me perfecting a pole vault drill for my athletes. Say word.
I'm rooting for Michigan State tonight, but I'm not sure North Carolina can be beat. I'm taking the points.
Michigan State +7.5
Lastly, Jim, that's three days in a row. Buy the book. (Not just Jim. Everyone. Book sales have slacked recently.)

Saving Private Ryan
I was just watching Saving Private Ryan when brought to my attention that there is a transcript of General Patton's "pre-game" speech before D-Day. If this doesn't make you want to stand up and defend your country with honor, pride, and heart, nothing will. You'd basically just piss Patton off. Enjoy.

Final Four

Last year, I made a tremendous amount of money betting on Davidson. This year, the team making me money has been Villanova and I expect this to be happening again tonight. North Carolina is good, but I gotta go with the Wildcats (especially after listening to the sermon I just heard by Villanova's team chaplain).
Villanova +7

In the second game, I like Michigan State money line, not in small part because apparently Michigan State girls are gangsta. They're basically playing a home game. I can't wait for either of these games.

Been a long, long time
It's been quite a while since I've posted anything (Jim has stated that he will not buy my book until I post something three straight days - "Even if it's just "f***" three days in a row"). That's enough incentive for me. At the same time, my new goal is to be more motivated to post something every day. There's a lot of good material to read online, which means there's just as much to share.
It's about time I finally read something positive about journalism. On the heels of the news that the Boston Globe may be dismantled by this time next month, it's pretty easy to be jaded about where the profession is headed. Even in my journalism class, we debate consistently about the future of newspapers. My opinion is that it will be sad to see newspapers disappear from under people's arms on the subway or at Starbucks. I hope this never happens. Reading newspapers provides perspective on the world. That said, online papers provide a greater convenience for readers. It's possible to read any paper from around the country - or world - with just the click of a mouse. I care greatly that newspapers survive. My preference is the printed page, but the internet works for me, too.
Back to my original point about the good press journalism has received. In the newest issue of the American Journalism Review, Kevin Rector wrote about being optimistic - as a young journalist - about where the profession is headed. He suggests that a new generation of newspaper writers could be what is needed. Journalism needs young, energetic, tech-saavy writers and the new crop of college graduates is just the remedy to cure the journalistic illness. Definitely a worth-while read.

Day Man
A tribute to the funniest show on TV.
Also, if you haven't please buy the book. It's great. And I need your help. As of right now, my hourly wage is like .0067 cents per hour.
